ENAMELING WITH MASON STAINS FOR A LAYERED BROOCH.

Enameling with mason stains: Learn my techniques for color layering and fine detail using mason stains with unleaded enamel on copper. Project will be a layered brooch including creating custom enameled screws for cold connection assembly. Some soldering is required for brooch findings. All levels are welcome, but basic metalsmithing skills are preferred.

Students will provide their own materials from the supply list. There is also a TBA kit fee which will include 21 of Jill's favorite mason stain colors. If you have your own mason stains, you can use those. Jill will also provide design selection guidelines and will work individually with students in design preparation ahead of the workshop. The focus will be on birds.

THE FOLLOWING CANCELLATION FEES WILL APPLY UNLESS WE CAN FILL YOUR SPOT FROM THE WAIT LIST.

BIO:

I grew up in Idaho with “rockhound” parents, spending many family vacations hunting opals, agates, onyx, and other treasures all over the U.S. western states. Now years later, my family is more likely to be found buying and selling similar items at the rock and gem shows in Quartzsite and Tucson.  My father cuts and cabs many of the stones I use in my work today.

I began my metalsmithing and enameling journey with classes at the Irvine Fine Arts Center, and have further developed my skills in workshops from artists I admire including Harold O’Connor, Merry-Lee Rae, Linda Darty, Jeanie Pratt, and Charity Hall. I work slowly in my free time while raising a family in southern California. Currently, you can find me teaching classes in Enameling at the Irvine Fine Arts Center.
